QUALIFICATIONS
You may become an egg donor if you
• are between 18 and 35 years old
• have no history of hereditary disease in the family
• have a normal cariotype
• are not a carrier of any sexually transmitted disease
• your reproductive system works normally
WHAT IS THE EGG DONATION PROCESS?
The donation process consists in stimulating egg production by means of a hormonal treatment, administered via daily injection for one or two weeks. The treatment is monitored regularly by scans aiming to determine the exact moment of ovulation.
The eggs are retrieved in only 15 minutes, by aspiration through the vagina. The process is monitored by means of a scan and no visible scars are left. In order to prevent any discomfort that egg retrieval may cause, the operation is carried out under anaesthetic sedation.
One hour after the operation the donor may go home and resume her everyday life.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will egg donation lead to an early menopause?
Egg donation does not reduce the reserve of eggs in the ovaries and consequently does not lead to an early menopause.
Can I receive the eggs of a friend or relative?
No. By law the donation must be anonymous.
Will the characteristics of the donor be disclosed?
Only her physical characteristics, her name and personal data cannot be disclosed.
Do donors resemble physically to the recipients?
Donors and recipients are matched on the basis of their blood type and physical characteristics. We try that the looks of the donor match as much as possible the looks of the recipient couple.
Who are the donors?
Young and healthy women willing to help other women to become mothers.
Do you check that egg donors are healthy?
Yes. They undergo a medical and gynaecological check as well as a thorough set of tests. Their medical and family history is also studied carefully.
